As a company that has been growing in the industry for over 50 years, we have witnessed first-hand how schools have evolved their dormitory and boarding environments to keep up with changing decor and the needs of their students.
In recent years we have seen an increase in the desire for painted furniture; our most recent project sees hues of dark navy mixed with neutral colours to create a modern but warm and homely feel.
The Design Process
Over past months we have worked with Bootham School to produce appropriate room layout schemes and proposals to create a range of furniture specific to their needs. Working with the school on the final designs we proposed a style of furniture that was both practical and well suited to the existing decor. The school had a particular interest in painted furniture, a trend that we are seeing more of in recent years.
For one bedroom in particular, the school opted for the furniture to be painted navy. Our design team worked on each item individually, creating furniture with painted carcasses and oak hardwood features.
Our designer Clark Cronin comment that when producing the room layout schemes for the rooms, it was important to ensure that each student felt that they had their own “space”. This can be challenging for rooms that house multiple students, however we ensured that in the majority of rooms each student had a bed with underbed storage, a wardrobe, desk and bedside table. It was important to integrate as much storage space as possible.
