Completed in 2014, this particular MHC project was designed and manufactured for a residential nursing home facility. Our design team provided the full design package, including room visuals, layouts and product proposals.
Our standard challenging environment products contain thick medium density fibreboard internally, and contain features such as secure hinges and anti ligature J-rails in wardrobes. The bed included one drawer at the footboard to create extra storage space for clothes, all drawers for secure environments are designed to be non removable and contain recessed handles and are manufactured with dovetail joints to ensure that cannot be pulled apart easily. Some of the rooms for this project contained desks, again drawers are designed to be non removable and provide an excellent working space for residents to draw or write.
9 bedrooms in total were designed and manufactured for this project with installation being completed by our team. For the purpose of the environment the bed bases were made to be a full panel with no ventilation holes or slats, the bases were sealed to prevent liquid ingress and beds were fixed to the floor. Fitted wardrobes accompanied the beds and were fixed to the wall and floors to prevent damage.
It was noted that the projected needed to create a homely feel by ensuring that furniture items did not create a medical feel or aesthetic. The furniture finish was selected by the client during the design phase, rather than opting for standard ash hardwood & veneer finished in gloss lacquer, MHC opted for the wood to be stained in Kenilworth Oak with the addition of vanilla gloss inset panels. This was only a small adaptation to our standard range, however it was extremely effective in creating a warm and inviting environment.
