Stafford Hall is a residential educational facility for children and young people who have autism and severe, complex learning disabilities. Our design team worked directly with Stafford Hall to create secure bedroom furniture that offers warmth and security.
The aesthetic of a secure bedroom is particularly important as our design team try to make the furniture feel non-medical and as homely as possible. It is important that the children feel comfortable and completely at ease in their secure bedroom environment, however it is also important that the furniture is safe and consistent.
The inside of the wardrobes and drawers were manufactured using thick medium density fibreboard, while the outside was made with ash hardwood and ash vainer. Like most of our secure furniture ranges, features were used such as secure hinges and anti-ligature J-rails in the wardrobes.
The drawers and wardrobes were designed with taupe grey fronts to contrast nicely with the Lancaster oak laminate. The drawers and cabinets were also manufactured to offer a safe storage space. Locks were placed on one drawer so those who care for the children and young people are able to store items, such as medication, freely without worrying about risks. The other drawers were left unlocked allowing the children to store their clothing and other personal belongings.
Our design team wanted to create a space that made each child feel comfortable and completely at home. The shelving was the perfect add on, as this not only maximizes storage in a small space, but it also gave the children a place to add in their own personal touches, showcasing their individual quirks and style.
This secure bedroom was designed, manufactured and installed by our team here at ETB Furniture. If you are a secure environment looking for furniture that embraces that homely aesthetic, then contact us for a quote today.
